alternative minimum salary proposal pursuant to the state statute; or 3) call an election on the
<br />proposed minimum salary as provided by state law; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, recognized its obligation
<br />pursuant to Section 141.034 of the Texas Local Government Code, subj ect to the possibility of
<br />reaching an agreement with a committee of petitioners designated in the aforesaid petition as
<br />to an alternative salary proposal, to call an election on the first authorized uniform election date
<br />under Chapter 41, Election Code that occurs after the 65th day after the date the petition was
<br />filed; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council found and determine that the aforesaid date for said
<br />election was Saturday, September 14, 2002; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council and the committee of petitioners failed to reach an
<br />agreement as to an alternative salary proposal; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to in all things comply with the requirements of
<br />State law for said election as established by Section 141.034 of the Texas Local Government
<br />Code; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, did therefore, on the 8th
<br />day of July, 2002, by Resolution No. 2002-124, order a special municipal election for the city
<br />of Paris to be held on the 14th day of September, 2002, by the qualified voters of the city of
<br />Paris, to consider a proposition on the question of increasing pay for members of the Fire
<br />Department of the City of Paris; and,
<br />WHEREAS, again pursuant to prior Resolution No. 2002-124, an election was held by
<br />the City of Paris to enable the qualified voters of the city of Paris, Texas, on the 14th day of
<br />September, 2002, to vote for or against the aforesaid proposition on the question of increasing
<br />pay for members of the Fire Department; and,
<br />WHEREAS, as required by order of the District Court of the United States for the
<br />Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division, in Civil Action No. P-75-3-CA, and as provided in the
<br />Charter of the City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas, such election was conducted and
<br />held at the specified and designated poling places for all seven (7) Districts and early voting of
<br />the City of Paris, Paris, Texas; and,
<br />WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election for all seven (7) Districts, made by the duly
<br />appointed and designated election officials of and for the respective voting boxes, having been
<br />made to the Mayor and City Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns after
<br />due and deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the results as summarized herein; NOW,
<br />THEREFORE,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
