Regular Council Meeting June 24, 2013 Page 4 Mayor Hashmi explained this was a joint decision between Commissioner's Court and the City Council, and that they had not received recommendations from the County yet. Council Member Drake asked if they could submit names and not make a final decision until they heard from the Commissioner's Court. Mayor Hashmi answered in the affirmative. City Clerk Janice Ellis said there were three vacancies and one was to be filled by a veterinarian. As Dr. House was the only veterinarian application, it was a consensus that he be appointed. Mayor Hashmi opened the floor for nominations. Council Member Drake nominated Rachel Braswell and Council Member Grossnickle nominated Kristi Martin. Rachel Braswell — Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. Kristi Martin — motion failed, 3 ayes — 3 nays. Mayor Hashmi asked for further nominations. Council Member Grossnickle re- nominated Kristi Martin and Council Member Jenkins nominated Kenneth Rogers. Mayor Hashmi closed the floor for nominations. Kristi Martin - Motion failed, 3 ayes — 3 nays. Kenneth Rogers, Motion failed 3 ayes — 3 nays. Mayor Hashmi re- opened the floor. Council Member Drake nominated Kristi Martin. Mayor Hashmi closed the floor. Kristi Martin — Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. 15. Appoint members to the various Boards, Commissions, and Committees of the City of Paris. Mayor Hashmi thanked the applicants for their interest in the City. He explained the process, in that the first nominations would be full term positions followed by nominations to unexpired terms. Mayor Hashmi continued with appointments to the various boards, commissions and committees as follows: Airport Advisory Board — Mayor Hashmi opened the floor for nominations. A Motion to nominate Chris Fitzgerald was made by Council Member Drake; a Motion to nominate William Tolleson was made by Council Member Grossnickle; and a Motion to nominate Dennis Ashby to the unexpired term was made by Mayor Hashmi. Mayor Hashmi closed the floor for nominations. Motions carried for these nominations, 6 ayes — 0 nays. Municipal Band — A Motion to nominate Joe Watson who is currently serving as band director, was made by Council Member Drake; a Motion to nominate appoint JoAnna Parsons was made by Council Member Jenkins. Mayor Hashmi said there were three applicants and three vacancies and that he would take a Motion on all three candidates with Betsy Mills being the third applicant for the unexpired term. Mayor Hashmi closed the floor for nominations. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays.
