MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF <br />THE CITY OF PARIS <br /> September 17, 2002 <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Paris, met in special session, Tuesday, <br />September 17, 2002, at 5:30 P. M., Paris Junior College, Applied Technology <br />Building, Room 1016, 2400 Clarksville Street, Paris, Texas. Mayor Michael <br />J. Pfiester called the meeting to order with the following Council Members <br />present: John F. Bell, Richard Manning, Joe E. McCarthy, Francine Neeley, <br />Willie Weekly, Sr. and Benny Plata. Also present were City Manager Michael <br />E. Malone, City Attorney Larry W. Schenk, and City Clerk Mattie <br />Cunningham. <br /> <br />Invocation was given by Gene Anderson, Director of Finance for the City of <br />Paris. <br /> <br />Mayor Pfiester announced that the first order of business was canvassing the <br />returns from the September 14, 2002, Special Election on a pay increase for <br />members of the Fire Department of the City of Paris. <br /> <br />The returns were presented to Mayor Pfiester and he canvassed the results of <br />the Special Election of the City of Paris held September 14, 2002, which were <br />read aloud. The pay referendum was defeated. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2002-152, canvassing the returns for the September 14, 2002, <br />City-Wide Special Election on the question of increasing pay for members of <br />the Fire Department of the City of Paris, was presented. A motion was made <br />by Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Weekly, for approval of <br />the resolution. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br /> <br />Mayor Pfiester announced that the first item on the agenda was to consider and <br />take possible action on additional amendments reducing the 2002-2003 budget <br />and accompanying tax rate. <br /> <br />Mayor Pfiester advised that last night council had stopped at the Airport's <br />budget.
