Box 635030
Nacogdoches, Texas 75963
(936) 559-2607
(936) 564-4622 - Fax

February 21, 2003

Chief Karl Louis
Paris Police Department
811 Bonham St.
Paris, Texas 75460 :

Dear Chief,

Hopefully by now my letter has run the Paris News. In addition, I wanted to write to you
personally and thank you for the help that you sent our way. You may never 'know what
it meant to us in Nacogdoches and your insight in sending communications personnel and
police personnel proved to be most valuable.

Your crew worked hard. We got more per person out of the Paris Police Department
group than any other. They came in ready to go and after the first day and a half were
running on their own. Whenever I looked up needing a recovery crew to go out, Paris
Police Department officers were either immediately available or had completed their
previous assignments so quickly that they had returned and we were able to send them
out again.

Don't doubt for a minute your decision to send assistance, or whether or not your
personnel made a difference in Nacogdoches. Rest assured they made a big impact.
Rhett's and Julia's work in our various operations centers was every bit as important as
the work that was done in the field.

One of my main responsibilities for the first 11 days was to help coordinate debris
recovery in the city and the county of Nacogdoches. Many volunteers, both civilian and
law enforcement, were utilized. All of them were very much appreciated and contributed
greatly to our efforts. However, none were more helpful than your personnel were.

I know you are proud, as we are proud, of the way your police officers and
communications officers worked. They conducted themselves as consummate
professionals and represented your city and agency well.
