Restrooms are needed throughout the community at different parks for residents of Paris according
to most participants at the focus group meetings.
Different safety measures are needed throughout multiple parks in Paris. Lighting is needed along
some of the walking trails and parking lots in different areas throughout the community. In
addition, some high crime areas need police patrol more often than others.
Conclusions
It is important to analyze the actual needs of the community so that the recommendations and
future development of Paris' park system are representative of what the residents desire. The city
has been successful in providing numerous different recreational amenities throughout the city and
needs to continue developing the park system. The City of Paris owns 23 parks and nearly 400
acres of park land. The city needs to focus on redeveloping and renovating parks throughout the
city. An indoor recreation center was the number one priority on the citizen survey and was
discussed in detail at several focus group meetings and the public input meeting. It is evident that
an indoor recreation center is needed in the City of Paris for many different indoor recreational
opportunities. Although swimming pools ranked number eleven on the survey, they were
discussed in detail at multiple focus group meetings and an indoor swimming pool is needed in
town. It is obvious that many residents desire an indoor recreation center and a swimming facility
but the high initial cost make it difficult to recommend either of these facilities early in the ten year
planning period. Maintenance after construction was ranked as the most important consideration
regarding future parks in Paris and according to participants at the focus group meetings and the
survey results, it is apparent that the City needs to focus on maintaining all the existing properties
at a higher level. Sprayground/small water park ranked number two and playgrounds ranked
number three on the citizen survey and are both needed recreational opportunities to get children
and families outdoors.
P,l
ATE %ASS
City of Paris Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan 2013 -2023
Page 33
