Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 18, 2013 <br />Opening: <br />The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:15 p.m. <br />Present: <br />Board members presents were Pat Books, Judith Kimbrough, Fran Neeley, Ann Norment, Linda <br />Vandiver, and Alice Woodard. Priscilla McAnally, library director was also present. Absent was <br />Connie Dodd. <br />I. Approval of Minutes <br />The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as presented. <br />II. New Business: <br />A. Adult Programming Ideas: Alice Woodard offered to give a 4 -6 week course on short <br />fiction for singles. A writing program for parents and grandparents on how to write their <br />memoirs for their children was also suggested, as was a program on recording oral <br />history. An author book signing with Paris native Jay Morris and his new book Red <br />Neck Opera Singer was proposed. Also an essay project "This I Believe ", begun in the <br />1950s and is now done on NPR, was recommended by Ann Norment. <br />B. The staff is checking the shelves for long overdue materials. A few have been found on <br />the shelves. The items not found will be charged to patrons' accounts and withdraw <br />from the system. Some of the items will be replaced — depending on demand of item and <br />relevancy to the collection. It is hoped the project will be completed by the end of <br />October. <br />III. Old Business <br />No old business was present. <br />IV. Presentations <br />A. Budget Report: <br />A balance of $6,576 is left in the Materials line of the budget. Most, if not all, will spend <br />by the end of the fiscal year <br />B. Statistical Report: <br />Circulation and visits were down a bit, but the children's attendance is up despite having <br />two fewer programs then August 2012. <br />V. Friends of the Library <br />None given <br />
