Regular City Council Meeting
August 25, 2003
Page 2
very interested in the proposition knowing that the hospital was interested in
disposing of the building. Dr. Hayden said at the end of their conversation he
assured him that he would work to see that this is favorably considered, not
only with Christus St. Joseph, but with the successful bidder. He said it would
be a very good public relations move for the hospital, and he agreed it also
would be good for the city to accept the donation. Dr. Hayden pointed out that
there is a window of opportunity and he was confident that the city will give it
every consideration.
Mayor Fendley announced that the Council would go into a budget workshop
session to consider, discuss, and take possible action on amendments to the
2003-2004 budget.
Terry Townsend, Director of Public Works, came forward presenting the
budget for the Public Works Departments. Mr. Townsend said he was
assuming that the City Council received his memorandum with all the changes.
He said this has all the changes in the departments that are in the General Fund.
The Public Works Department also includes the Water Distribution and Sewer
Maintenance divisions.
Mr. Townsend said in Public Works, the only real change is the $1,000.00
increase in the Communications-Telephone line because they have over spent
that line item this year and the only reason is they were not being billed for
their T-1 line over a couple years since it was installed. Once the phone
company realized it they started back billing the city for that and we had to
start paying for the back billing. Mr. Townsend said that the cost for Main
Street is also included in this account and that person is included in the
personnel cost.
Mr. Townsend moved to the Parks, Recreation, and Rights of Way Division.
He pointed out to the Council that there are 17 employees in this division. He
said the only increases will be funds that he has placed in there for the park
road at Lake Crook, Lake Gibbons, and some of the parking lots at Ellis Park
