Regular City Council Meeting
August 26 , 2003
Page 9
from 17% to 11 That will translate into a savings of about $140,000.00.
Mr. Campbell said in addition to the lost water being down, it looks like Lamar
County is now paying the full amount. They were selling more than they were
buying for a good while last year, but now they are back to buying 9.2% more
than they are selling.
Councilman Guest asked when the city buys the lines from Lamar County
Water Supply, what impact will that have on our residents.
Mr. Anderson advised that they have some of the revenue that they are still
serving with their meters, so it is not a full conversion over and he really cannot
tell at this time.
Mr. Campbell said the budgets this year are pretty straight forward, but there
are a few changes that they need to make like account 10-0209 on page 241.
If you will notice, in the year 2001-2002 it was about $6,000.00 and last year
they budgeted $7,000.00 and it has jumped up to $13,200.00. In the past, they
have budgeted minor apparatus items that were more of a capital expenditure,
but since they were not over $5,000.00, Mr. Anderson moved those into this
account. The maj or thing is a meter for the lagoon outfall where the water at
the wastewater treatment goes and a communication upgrade. Mr. Campbell
said every year they seem to add onto the existing computer system that they
have. This next year they are going to add more chlorine analyzers in the
distribution system and they will be hooked up to their computer system at the
Water Treatment Plant.
Mayor Fendley asked about the utilities in account 0308 being so high. Mr.
Anderson advised that what they need to do is move $170,000.00 out of this
line item and move it over to Terry Townsend's Department No. 83. Mr.
Campbell said also some of the problem is the poor billing system of First
Choice.
