Regular City Council Meeting
September 9 , 2003
Page 7
NETCADA in the amount of $7,000.00. The motion carried 5 ayes, 2 nays.
Councilman Plata and Councilman Weekly voting no.
Mayor Fendley called for a vote on the funding of Models of the Maker. A
motion was made by Councilman Weekly to contribute $10,000.00 to the Models
of the Maker. The motion was seconded by Councilman Guest and failed with
2 ayes, 5 nays.
Councilman Plata made a motion to fund the Models of the Maker in the amount
of $7,000.00. The motion was seconded by Councilman Weekly and carried 4
ayes, 3 nays, Councilwoman Neeley, Councilman Bell, and Mayor Fendley voting
no.
A motion was made by Councilwoman Neeley, seconded by Councilman Plata,
to leave Keep Paris Beautiful in the budget at $5,000.00. The motion carried 7
ayes, 0 nays.
It was the consensus of the City Council for the City Manager to notify the
charitable organizations that their funding will be in serious question, and give
them the history of how this had been placed in the budget as he had explained to
them earlier.
Karl Louis, Police Chief, came forward stating that many of the organizations
they have been discussing tonight are kind of interrelated to law enforcement.
He said, for instance, NETCADA, on the prevention side, really assisted the
Police Department and felt it was money well spent. He said the Children's
Advocacy Center also works with the Police Department on children that have
been molested and it is critically important for them to work in relationship with
the Children's Advocacy Center. Chief Louis said if the city comes up with a new
policy regarding recommendations to Council, especially those related to law
enforcement, he would like the Council to take that into consideration and allow
the Police Department to be a participant in the staff recommendations to the
Council in regard to those particular issues.
