<br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />March 29, 2004 <br />The City Council of the City of Paris met in special session on Monday, March <br />29, 2004, 6:00 P.M. at Paris Junior College, Bobby R. Walters Applied <br />Technology Building, Room 1206, 2400 Clarksville Street, Paris, Texas. Mayor <br />Curtis Fendley called the meeting to order with the following Council Members <br />present: Jim Bell, Jay Guest, Joe E. McCarthy, Francine Neeley, Willie Weekly, <br />Sr., and Benny Plata. Also present were Interim City Manager Terry Townsend, <br />City Attorney Larry W. Schenk and Acting City Clerk Sherian Dixon. <br />Mayor Fendley announced at 6:02 P.M. that the Council would go into <br />Executive Session pursuant to Section 551.071 of the Texas Government Code, <br />Consultation with Attorney, to receive legal counsel pertaining to the duty of an <br />attorney to his client under the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct <br />of the State Bar of Texas regarding the following matters: <br />A.Possible settlement with suspended City Manager Michael E. Malone. <br />B.City of Paris vs. Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company and <br /> Brokers Risk Placement Services, Inc.; Cause No. 72052. <br />C.Billy C. Brown vs. City of Paris, el al; Civil Action No. 72322. <br />Mayor Fendley reconvened the City Council into Open Session at 6:18 P.M. <br />City Councilman Bell made a motion to offer the settlement as discussed in <br />Executive Session and which is attached to these minutes as Exhibit A to <br />suspended City Manager Michael E. Malone.
