Knew him in law school. Went to work for him ten years <br />ago as assistant city attorney. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />What do you consider to be his strengths as a city manager? <br /> <br />He has several strengths. He doesn't panic under stress. He creates options for <br />the City Council. He is extremely patient with both citizens and Council. He is <br />very intelligent, has strong analytical ability. Has strong work ethic and is <br />extremely honest. He expects all those things from his employees. Wouldn't <br />hesitate to work for him again. He also has a good sense of humor. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />In your opinion, how successful has he been in managing the financial affairs <br />of the city government? <br /> <br />He has been very successful. He has been able to tackle two major projects at the <br />same time. Able to do this while keeping the routine things going. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />Does he have expertise/experience in dealing with economic development <br />issues/initiatives? How successful has he been in economic development? <br /> <br />As City Attorney he worked closely with ED corporations and knows how to <br />maximize them. Killen has had a strong ED effort. He can't take all the credit, <br />but he has been involved. <br /> <br />s. <br /> <br />What experience does John have with downtown redevelopment issues? Can <br />you think of any particularly successful downtown projects or activities? <br /> <br />He has experience with TIFs in downtown areas in two cities. Presented a paper <br />on TIFs to IMLA. Used to finance new facades and landscaping in the downtown <br />area. <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />How would you evaluate John's success in carrying out the goals and <br />objectives set for him by the City Council (or his boss)? <br /> <br />Would rate him highly. He believes that his role is to find out what the Council <br />wants and get it done through the staff.
