Texas Historical Commission <br />Join the Visionaries in Preservation Program <br />The Ysionaries in Preservation Program offers many <br />opportunities for communities, professionals and volunteers to <br />join this innovative effort for Texas. Communities can apply to <br />formally participate in the program or receive technical <br />assistance on existing preservation planning adivities. <br />Professionals, volunteers, and students can use their <br />knowledge and expertise to help communfties visualize and <br />plan for a vital future using historic preservation. Read on to <br />find out how you can be a"Visionary." <br />Communities <br />Communities interested in formally participating in the program must first build a base of local support <br />for visianing. The program requires a local steering committee that will coordinate local efforts before <br />application is made. Committee members should represent a wide range of stakeholders and be <br />willing to secure commitments to promote and support the program's activities in the community. <br />Appiirations for the program are accepted annually in May. Up to four communities are selected based <br />upon readiness to begin, local support, historic resources and other relevant fadors. See the <br />Vi@ionaries application (Word) for guidelines, evaluation criteria and information on upcoming <br />deadlines. <br />Students and Professionals <br />The Visionaries in PreservaGon Program is an innovative, capacity building initiative for historic <br />preservation grounded in citizen leadership and indusive participation. We encourage professionals, <br />volunteers and graduate students to participate in several ways: <br />• Serve on an interdisciplinary advisory team to work with staff in selecting communities for the <br />program; <br />• Join a planning team and work hands-on with communities to aide in understanding technicai <br />issues and develop action plans; <br />• Help organize and facilitate community-wide visioning workshops in participating communities; <br />. Intern with the program and receive valuable experience in historic preservation and <br />community-based planning <br />We are looking for architects, planners and facilitators experienced with group design process and <br />charrette techniques, as well as individuals with experience in historic preservation, dispute resolution, <br />community planning, real estate law and economic development.
