Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 20, 2014 <br />Opening: <br />The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:00 p.m. <br />Present: <br />Board members present were Fran Neeley, Connie Dodd, Denise Kornegay, Mike Pendleton, Rebecca <br />Umphrey, and director Priscilla McAnally. Absent were Carol James and Ann Norment. <br />I. Approval of Minutes <br />The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as presented. <br />II. New Business: <br />A. Change to Half -price Wednesday. All fines paid on Wednesdays will be half -price <br />rather than only for books turned in on Wednesdays. <br />B. Trust funds update. Expendable trust balance — $85,424; Permanent trust balance — <br />$90,062. The interest from the Permanent fund goes into the Expendable fund. <br />III. Old Business: <br />A. The roof has been repaired — at a cost of $6250. There is another area which needs to be <br />repaired the approximate cost will be $700. Recommendation to take $2,750 from <br />Expendable trust to add to the $4200 from the Buildings & Grounds line to cover roof <br />repair. Leaves the current balance of $92.75 in the Buildings and Grounds budget for <br />the remainder of the fiscal year. Motion by Connie Dodd; second by Denise Komegay. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />IV. Presentations <br />A. Budget Report. <br />The August budget report showed overages in three budget lines — Technical processing <br />($567.40), Media — Books, CDs, Film, etc. ($3,230.43), and Training and Tuition <br />($9.00). <br />B. Statistical Report shows that both circulation and visits are up again over last year. <br />Circulation increased 5.54 %, and visits increased by 7.46 %. Ms. McAnally brought our <br />attention to the statistics for Freegal music and video statistics and explained these <br />services. Several board members weren't aware of these services. <br />V. Friends of the Library: <br />No members of Friends were there to report, but Ms. McAnally informed us that the <br />Friends are purchasing new patron cards and DVD cases for the library. <br />VI. Director's Remarks: <br />Ms. McAnally talked about the overdue item project staff is working on currently. There <br />are more than 2000 books overdue with many of them "long" overdue. <br />A new part-time clerk will start on Monday, August 25. <br />There were 48 people who attended Reavis Wortham's book signing on August 9. <br />
