Minutes <br />Traffic Commission <br />City of Paris <br />The Traffic Commission met on Tuesday, August 05, 2014 at 5:15 P.M. in the <br />Municipal Courtroom with the following members present: <br />1. <br />Barry Shiver <br />2. <br />Susan Hamby <br />3. <br />Ken Kohls <br />4. <br />Stephen Engelhardt <br />5. <br />Bill Sanders <br />The city staff was represented by Asst. Chief Randy Tuttle. <br />City Councilman Aaron Jenkins was present as council liaison. <br />Mr. Shiver called the meeting to order at 5:19pm. A quorum was established with <br />five members present. <br />Mr. Shiver then moved to item #2 regarding the approval of minutes from the <br />April 22, 2014 and July 01, 2014 meetings. A motion was made by Ms. Hamby <br />and second by Mr. Kohls to approve minutes of both meetings. Motion carried 5- <br />0 <br />Mr. Shiver moved to item #3 concerning the discussion and possible action <br />concerning the installation of a bicycle lane on 24th SE. Mr. Tuttle informed <br />members that the City Engineers office had requested this item be considered for <br />students going to and leaving Paris Jr. High School at 2400 Jefferson Road and <br />it would be part of the Safe Route to Schools project. City Engineer employee <br />Shane Grissom presented members with a map of 24th SE and explained to <br />members that an eight foot wide bicycle /pedestrian lane had been planned for <br />the east and west side of 24th SE beginning at the Trail de Paris and going south <br />on 24th SE to approximately 140 feet north of Jefferson Road. Mr. Grissom said a <br />crosswalk will be installed near the drive of Paris Fire Station #4 to bring bicycle <br />and pedestrian traffic to a sidewalk that would connect to a crosswalk on <br />Jefferson Road leading to Paris Jr. High. Mr. Grissom explained that a sidewalk <br />would connect the lanes to the Trail de Paris also. After discussion Ms. Hamby <br />made a motion to place the eight foot bicycle /pedestrian lane on the east and <br />west side of 24th SE as proposed by the City Engineers Office. Mr. Engelhardt <br />second the motion and it carried 5 -0. <br />Mr. Shiver moved to item #4 regarding an old business. Mr. Kohls asked about <br />the issue of closing the crossover in 5000 block SE Loop 286. Mr. Tuttle informed <br />members he had previous discussions with TXDOT about this and they had <br />
