ORDINANCE NO. 2014 -026 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING SEC. 26 -9 SENIORITY PAY OF CHAPTER 26, POLICE, OF THE <br />CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS TO ADD <br />ADDITIONAL SENIORITY PAY STEPS FOR SWORN POLICE OFFICERS OF <br />THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS AND OTHER MATTERS RELATED TO THE <br />SAME; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A <br />SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the sworn police officers of the City of Paris, Texas are employed under <br />a Civil Service System set out under Chapter 143 Texas Local Government Code; and, <br />WHEREAS, Section 143.041 of the Local Government Code authorizes the governing <br />body of a municipality to provide additional compensation to police officers based on <br />longevity and /or seniority; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Parris approved a budget for FY <br />2014 -2015 which included longevity and seniority pay for police officers and fire fighters <br />employed by the City of Paris, Texas; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has approved an additional seniority pay step for <br />patrolmen with twenty (20) years or more service to the Paris City Police Department and <br />sergeants, lieutenants, captains and assistant chiefs with fifteen (15) or more years of <br />service to the City Police department as provided herein. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby <br />in all things approved. <br />Section 2. That Section 26 -9 of Chapter 26 of the Code of Ordinances of the City <br />of Paris, Texas, is hereby amended and replaced to read in its entirety as follows: <br />"Sec. 26 -9. Seniority Pay. <br />Members of the police department below the rank of chief shall be entitled to <br />receive seniority pay, on the basis of time in service and rank achieved, said seniority pay <br />to be in addition to each officer's base pay as follows: <br />(a) For all officers of the rank of patrolman, seniority pay shall be added to each <br />officer's base pay, based on the following schedule of years in service to the Paris <br />Police Department: <br />1. Patrolman with one (1) or more years of service and less than three (3) years of <br />
