Minutes Traffic Commission City of Paris The Traffic Commission met on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010, at 5:15 P.M. in the Municipal Courtroom with the following members present: 1. Ken Kohls 2. Ray Banks 3. Jon McFadden 4. Stephen Holmes 5. George Kimbrough The city staff was represented by Asst. Chief Randy Tuttle. Councilman Joe McCarthy was present a council liaison member The meeting was called to order at 5:15pm by Chairman Kimbrough. A quorum was established by 5 members being present. Mr. Kimbrough asked the commission members to review the submitted minutes of the January 5th, 2010 meeting. Mr. Holmes made a motion to approve the minutes which was seconded by Mr. Banks and passed 5 -0. Mr. Kimbrough moved to item #3 regarding the discussion and action for a request to place a school zone at the new Paris High School in the 2900 block SE Loop 286. After discussion of this item Mr. Holmes made a motion to request TXDOT do a traffic study for the placement of a school zone at this location. The motion was seconded by Mr. McFadden and passed 5 -0. Mr. Kimbrough moved to item #4 regarding discussion and action concerning a request for a school zone in the 2900 block Jefferson at the new Paris High School. Mr Tuttle informed the members that the Mayor had received a letter from TXDOT requesting an ordinance on this school zone. The school zone would be in effect from forty -five minutes prior to school and thirty minutes after school dismisses at a speed of 35 mph. After discussion of this item a motion to approve the request was made by Mr. Holmes and second by Mr. Kohls. Motion passed 5 -0. Mr. Kimbrough moved to item #5 regarding the presentation and discussion concerning traffic study at 33rd SE & Lamar. Mr Tuttle advised members that TXDOT had completed the traffic study and recommended a traffic signal be placed to control traffic leaving the Continental Village apartments into the intersection. A pedestrian crossing at west side and south side of intersection was also proposed. This was not an action item so it will be placed on March agenda as an action item.
