MINUTES <br />TRAFFIC COMMISSION <br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 5, 1999 <br />5:15 O'CLOCK P.M. <br />COUNCIL ROOM - CITY HALL <br />PARIS, TEXAS <br />The Traffic Commission met in regular session, Tuesday, January 5, 1999 with the <br />following members present: <br />1. Charles Thompson <br />2. Edward Ellis <br />3. Mary Lane <br />4. Cleo Holmes <br />5. Joel McCray <br />6. George Robinson <br />7. Kenneth Webb <br />8. Ricky Mackey <br />The city staff was represented by Assistant Police Chief James Barnett. <br />The meeting was called to order at 5:15 P.M. by Chairman George Robinson with <br />members Webb and Mackey not yet present. <br />The Minutes of the October 6, 1998 meeting were approved as submitted. <br />The first item of business was a request for Stop Signs on 22nd S.W. at West Austin Streets. <br />Assistant Chief Barnett advised that he had received several calls concerning this being a <br />hazardous intersection. Two or more callers had stated they observed an accident and <br />several all -most accidents at this location and wanted Stop Signs placed. The police <br />department records did not show any reported accidents at this location during 1997. <br />After discussion Charles Thompson made a motion that Stop Signs be placed stopping <br />North and South bound traffic on 22 "d S.W. at West Austin Street. The motion was <br />seconded by Mary Lane and passed 6 ayes to 0 nays. <br />Commission member Kenneth Webb came in. <br />A request for a Left Turn Lane for North bound traffic on 20t' N.E. at Pine Bluff Street <br />was considered. After discussion Mary Lane made a motion that this request be <br />recommended to the City Council. Kenneth Webb seconded and the motion passed 7 ayes <br />to 0 nays. <br />Later after Ricky Mackey came in there was more discussion requested so this request was <br />revisited and discussion led Mary Lane to amend her motion to request that the State be <br />requested to do a study to make a left turn lane and /or install a traffic signal at this <br />location. Kenneth Webb seconded this amended motion and it passed 8 ayes to 0 nays with <br />Ricky Mackey now present. <br />
