MINUTES <br />TRAFFIC COMMISSION <br />TUESDAY, AUGUST 2,1994 <br />5:15 O'CLOCK P.M. <br />COUNCIL ROOM - CITY HALL <br />PARIS,TEXAS <br />The Traffic Commission met in regular session August 2,1994, with the <br />following members present: <br />Kay Hughes <br />George Robinson <br />Ed Ellis <br />Ricky Mackey <br />Pauline Franklin <br />Charles Thompson <br />Dave Gilbert <br />The City staff was represented by Asst. Chief James Barnett. <br />Co- Chairman Pauline Franklin called the meeting to order at 5:20 P.M. The <br />minutes of the April 5,1994 meeting were approved as submitted. <br />The first item of business was a request for Stop Signs to be placed on <br />30th NE at Fair Oaks. This request was made by a citizen in the neighborhood. <br />The City Traffic Department studied this request and recommended that Stop <br />Signs be placed as requested at this address. <br />Ed Ellis made a motion the Stop Signs be placed as requested. Dave Gilbert <br />seconded the motion. The motion carried 5 ayes to 0 nayes. Kay Hughes and <br />Ricky Mackey were not present at this time. <br />The second item was a request to lower the 30 MPH speed limit on 42nd NE <br />between Lamar Avenue and Pine Mill road. <br />Debbie Huggins of 4155 Enchanted Lane, Delorian Tippitt of 4120 Enchanted <br />Lane and Michael Pfiester of 4215 Enchanted Lane appeared to speak in favor <br />of this request and showed members of the Traffic Commission a petition <br />signed by people in the neighborhood and others. (Petition was returned to <br />Debbie Huggins). Asst. Chief James Barnett recommended the request be denied <br />after the discussion. <br />Dave Gilbert made a motion the speed limit be lowered to 25 MPH. George <br />Robinson seconded the motion. It carried 5 ayes to 2 nayes, with Ricky <br />Mackey and Charles Thompson voting against this motion. <br />The third item was a request for Martin Luther King drive to be made one - <br />way near T.G.Givens school for one hour in the morning and one hour in the <br />afternoon on school days only. <br />T.G. Givens principal, Billy Berry appeared and spoke in favor of this request. <br />He wants to one -way from Fitzhugh Avenue to 6th NE, moving traffic to the <br />West from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM each school day. Asst. <br />Chief Barnett recommended tabling the item until we could get input from the <br />City engineer and Traffic Departments. Dave Gilbert made a motion to table <br />the item pending city staff study and asked that a special meeting be called <br />if this study was completed before the next regular meeting. <br />
