The Board of Directors of the Paris Public Library met in <br />regular session, Nov 18, 1975 in the Library with the chairman, <br />Ben Marable, presiding. Present were librarians, Mrs. Baker, <br />Mrs. Finch, and Mrs. Gies. Mrs. Gies, a new member of the staff, <br />was introduced by Mrs. Baker to the board. Also present were <br />Harold Greene, of the City, and the following members: Robert <br />Pierson, F.D. Mallory, Herschel McKinney,.Dee Cunningham and <br />Mrs. Glynn Lowe.. Absent ere: Dr. C. M. Townsend, Mrs. Prentis <br />Ellis, Felix Gibson, Mrs. Frank McClure, David Denney and Mrs. <br />Marvin Gibbs. <br />Minutes of the October 21 meeting were read and approved. <br />The Development Committee including: Hoot Gibson, F. D. <br />Mallory, Virginia Gibbs and headed by Robert Pierson wrote a <br />letter to the Texas State Library Field Representative stating <br />the plans for improving our library. In her reply she said, she <br />would be unable to make a survey; but could assist us with some <br />material. Mr. Pierson said the committee suggested that she <br />give us material to fit our needs. <br />The Committee recommended that all board members and as <br />many of the staff as possible make a trip to the Sherman Library <br />to observe the facilities there. Arrangements have been made <br />and a mini -bus secured from Paris Junior College. The group <br />to leave at 8 a.m..on Dec 4th from the Library parking lot with <br />plans'to return by noon. All members were urged to go. <br />Mr. Greene reported on the financial statement. Pierson <br />moved that the statement be approved and was seconded by Mallory. <br />He also reported that Mr. Misso's work on the new restroom <br />facilities has been completed. The total cost was between $2100 <br />and $2200. He has been paid and complimented for the fine job. <br />McKinney moved that the October statement of the S.W. Wilbor <br />Memorial Fund, read by Mr. Marable, be approved as circulated. <br />It was seconded by Mr. Cunningham and passed. <br />Suggested procedure for the "Friends of the Library ", was <br />discussed. Each member was asked to add to the list of names of <br />those to be invited to the first meeting. <br />Proposed By -Laws were made by Felix Gibson and passed out to <br />each member. McKinney read the original By -Laws. There was dis- <br />cussion on the ordinance creating the board. In order to have <br />no conflict, further discussion was tabled until the survey was <br />made and more information was available. McKinney suggested that <br />we send a copy of the original and proposed By -Laws to the City <br />Attorney for his opinion and Mr. Greene agreed to take it. <br />Mrs. Baker passed sheets from the Texas Library survey show- <br />ing volumns, City and County funds, salaries, books, magazines <br />and circulations from 12 libraries. <br />Mrs. Finch showed folders she made using Curious George to <br />stimulate interest in first and second graders for membership <br />in the library. <br />Meeting adjourned at 11 a.m. <br />
