MINUTES OF BOARD METING, PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />4 <br />December 16, 1975 <br />The Board of Directors for the Faris Public Library met in <br />regular session, December 16, 1975 in the Library with the �;hairman, <br />.Ben Marable presiding. Attending were Herschel McKinney, Felix <br />Gibson, David Denney Robert Pierson, Dee Cunningham, Mrs. Frank <br />McClure, Mrs. Glynn Lowe, F- D. Mallory, and Mrs. Printis Ellis. <br />Board Members absent included Dr. G. M. Townsend and Mrs. Marvin <br />Gibbs. Harold Greene of the city and Librarians Mrs. Margaret <br />Baker and Mrs. R• H. Finch. were alse present. <br />Minutes of the November 18 meeting taken by Mrs. Lowe were <br />read and approved. After an explanation of the City's financial <br />record of the Library by Mr. Greene, Mr. McKinney moved approval, <br />motion seconded and passed. <br />The Chairman explained the Wilbor MAmorial Fund with 1"IcKinney <br />moving approval, motion seconded, discussed and passed. - <br />Gibson moved shelves for the office be pureh�;sed out of the <br />Memorial Fund, motion seconded, discussed and passed. Denney moved <br />purchase of mobile book shelves for the children's library be <br />made from the Memorial Fund, costing $198 plus freight. Motion was <br />seconded, discussed and passed. <br />After discussion of need for subscriptions to more magazines <br />needed by Library patrons, Denney moved Gibson and Mrs. Ell-is place <br />two ads in the Paris News and one in the Echo requesting memorial <br />gifts to the Library of books and magazine subscriptions. Motion <br />seconded, discussed and passed. Gibson showed a copy of the ad. <br />After thorough discussion and changing of the wording, Denney <br />moved adoption of the By -Laws for the Library as'prepared and <br />circiilated to all members, motion was seconded discussed and <br />passed: By -Laws had been checked with City Atiorney and other <br />officials. Copy is attached. <br />Pearson, reporting on the trip to the Sherman Public Library, <br />said 13 made the trip in a mini -bus providdd by Paris Junior College <br />through Gibson's efforts. Mrs. Baker and Mr.s. Finch were included <br />in the December 4th trip. A former Lamar County resident, Mrs. <br />Hope Waller is he ^d Librarian and received the group with pleasure. <br />The Sherman Library operates on a $151,049 budget and was built <br />in 1973 after a bond issue and grant of $150,000 from Title II of <br />Library Services and Construction Act. There are 15,933 square <br />feet with a volumbr, capacity of 69,000, and seating capacity of 97. <br />There is a community room with 80 seats and all facilities needed. <br />There is a "Friends of the Sherman Public Library" conducting several <br />special program such as art.
