Present were the Librarians Mrs. Mnrr-aret Baker and <br />Mrs. Finch; Harold Greene of the City; and these members - F. D. Mallory, <br />Felix Gibson,, Robert Pierscn2 H-�- ^schel McIrinney, sir. s. Glynn Lowe 1:r ^. <br />Marvin Gibbs, and Mrs. I rinds Ellis. Absent were -'rs.Frank I,:cC ;ur.e, <br />David Denney and Dr. C. Ii. Townr-Qnd. <br />Minutes of the .April 15 m� -ting were read and approved as circulated. <br />McKinney moved approval of the April h inancial report, Pie- -son seer nded, <br />and motion passed. The Chairman said the change in financial records <br />would begin with the new fiscal ye -r, so a new method co>zld be started. <br />Pierson reported the Budget Committee had met with t'--e City Manager <br />Kerry cweatt and Harold Greene concerning the buO,; et prc "osed at the <br />April 15 meeting. Greene complimented the pr- :parntion and said it would <br />be pre- -nted to the City Council. <br />There was no Progress report on installa- :-ion of a men's restroom. <br />Mallory discussed the possibility of having the City keep the <br />financial records for the Library, deleting the necessity for a Library <br />Treasurer and cutting down on cost of audit which the city would handle, <br />plus value of having a Pool for supplies from which the Library crn?ld <br />dr, w. <br />After lengV''y discuesion, Mr,,i, Gibbo rrorommd thq dif®lilmmio n bo <br />continued for a later vote, and this was generally agreed on, for the <br />June 17 m -eting. <br />Mrs. Finch reror.ted on the Children's Library work, asking for a <br />Pai ^e to serve two hours each day, Tue ^day through Friday from 12:30 to <br />2:309 and all day Saturday. Seemed apparent this w -s as it teas in 1974 <br />and had been possibly included in the budget re i -e st. i trs . Finch had <br />visited each school and discussed books with teachers who will be »sing <br />loan books from t -e Paris Public Library. This extelids now even to the <br />five yenr olds at T. G. Givens School. She reported a pilot re -ding nrojQct <br />to begin at East Paris Cchool which has 5000 books and nn help to i end <br />them. She said she and the Paige at bhe Pa- -is -'ublic T ibrary 1 -ept the <br />ch'ldren's books mended, and that the collection had been re�ognized as <br />one of the best in 100 mile radius by a professor from ''a .- Texas State <br />University. ^he said brochures in green had been printed alone' raith book <br />marks for each school child, affording them a listing place to record <br />books read during the summer program entitled "Summer is Sea- rionstrously <br />Fun." _Ihe commented on the fa,.t that a page gets $2.00 an hour and she <br />a Librarian receives only 42.38 an hour. <br />Gibson commented onthis saying the Board was proud of the staff <br />and aware of the low salary as well as the low numbers, comparing to <br />Sherman Library with a staff of 19.
