PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JANUARY 13, 1993 <br />Minutes <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session <br />January 13, 1993, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Secretary Frances A. <br />Ellis presiding, and these members present: Jean Gibson, Bill <br />Hagood, Rogene Patterson, and Joe Rex. Absent were Jackie <br />Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Bill Neely and Beth Shelton. Beverly <br />Lewis, Library Director, and Thomas Seay, NETLS Representative also <br />attended. <br />The Minutes of the December 16, 1992, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis reported the fiscal year budget was on schedule and in <br />the monthly status report called attention to the slight decline in <br />December of 1992, from 43,907 in 1991 to 43,509 in 1992. She said <br />Dial -A -Story had 2,951 calls and it remains a very popular program <br />for young readers and listeners. She reported 59 memorials given. <br />In December 600 large print books circulated, a large increase due <br />mainly to the intershelving with regular format books. She said <br />194 adult books, 106 juvenile books, 51 videos and 23 audio books <br />were added in December. <br />The plans for the Thrasher Art Exhibit January 15 -17 were reviewed <br />and the program completed. Jerry Thrasher will place the 8 oil <br />originals by each artist January 14. The letter to the schools <br />brought response with plans for 60 students to visit every 45 <br />minutes already scheduled. <br />Bill Neely, Board Chairman, will preside with the Reverend Mike <br />Fortenberry of East paris Baptist Church giving the invocation. <br />Each of the four sponsors will have a chairman or president extend <br />a welcome. Dr. Janes Semple of Dallas will speak about the <br />Thrasher family and Mrs. Thrasher will be asked to introduce family <br />members present. Frances A. Ellis will give the plaque provided by <br />Bill Hagood to the Thrashers. <br />The Friends of the Library with Keitt Wood, President, will provide <br />the reception to follow in the audio visual area of the Library. <br />Ms. Lewis advised that Dr. Don Riddle gave the Library a Visualtek <br />Read /Write System which will assist persons with impaired vision in <br />memory of his wife Ruth Ann McLaughlin Riddle. <br />
