PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />November 10, 1993 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met November 10, 1993, instead of the regular third <br />Wednesday, at 4 PM in the Gallery with these members present: Beth Shelton, Chairman, <br />presiding: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex <br />and Secretary Frances Ellis. Beverly Lewis, Library Director; NETLS Lay Representative <br />Thomas Seay; and Friends President Keitt Wood were present. Bill Neely was absent. <br />Minutes of the October 20, 1993, meeting were approved as corrected. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed the Budget saying it is in the first month of the new fiscal year and everything <br />is fine. She said the statistical report showed a 5.3% increase in circulation during October over a <br />year before. She said evening circulation is up with an average of 106 items being checked out. <br />She reported only 250 accessions during October but new books and other materials have been <br />ordered and this figure will increase because the materials budget was restored. <br />She said the budget for fiscal year 1993 -1994 was approved at $493,255, the amount requested. <br />Mrs. Alsobrook reported on meetings of the county funding request committee. Ms. Lewis <br />reported on the three issues being considered: amount of money requested from the county budget; <br />county participation in the budget process; and how members are obtained for serving on the <br />Board. She said she had asked Attorney Mary Clark to look over the proposed contract and Mrs. <br />Clark offered help in getting the correct wording for staggering the time of Board member <br />appointments. For her help, a book will be placed in the Library in her name. <br />Ms. Lewis reported Hagood, Shelton, Wood, and Gibson had attended the demonstration on <br />automation set up by one company October 27, and they were impressed. She said another <br />company has been invited to provide a demonstration and she would notify members so they could <br />attend. She explained the many benefits that automation would provide for the Library, including <br />inventory control. She said staff and volunteers would work Monday, November 14 to take a <br />physical inventory. <br />Ms. Lewis reported forty-four memorials and gifts for October, with a net of $1,046 from the <br />monetary donations. <br />Mrs. Wood reported a successful book review luncheon October 29 and a profit of $1,030 was <br />made for the children's department. She said the speaker was paid $300 for her appearance. <br />Ms. Lewis spoke about the number of books to be checked out, saying the only rule is a limit of <br />three books on a specific subject, and unlimited borrowing privileges on fiction books. During the <br />holiday period, a special limit would be only one holiday video permitted per card, two juvenile <br />holiday books per card; and three adult holiday non - fiction books per card. <br />
