PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />DECEMBER 15, 1993 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, December 15, 1993, <br />at the home of the Chairman, Beth Shelton who provided a Christmas reception for members. <br />Attending were Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, Bill Hagood, Bill Neely, Rogene <br />Patterson, Joe Rex, and Francis Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, Thomas Seay, <br />NETLS Lay Representative; and Keitt Wood, Friends President were present. <br />The minutes of the November 10, 1993, meeting were approved as circulated. <br />There was no budget report available from the City. Ms. Lewis gave the statistical report saying <br />there was an increase of 11.3% in circulation for the year to date, mainly due to the addition of <br />many new books and videos. She reported 33 memorial and gift donations valued at $525, saying <br />videos are being used for memorials if donors request them. She said there were 327 new books <br />added in November. <br />Mrs. Alsobrook reported on the last meeting with the Committee concerning county funding, and <br />Ms. Lewis said she had rewritten the Contract including retaining the Memorial/Gift fund and the <br />Trust Fund to be continued as part of the Board's managing responsibility. She explained the <br />formula for the 35% amount requested from the County for the Library Budget, and mentioned a <br />nine member Board would have three members appointed by the County Commissioners. Mrs. <br />Alsobrook and Mrs. Shelton would remain on the Board until their terms expire since they are <br />residing in the County. <br />Ms. Lewis said January would be Amnesty month when all overdue materials could be returned <br />free of charge. Plastic bags would be given to those who returned overdue items to the <br />circulation desk. <br />Ms. Lewis reported on the status of automation, saying the inventory was taken November 20 and <br />67,000 items were included. She has sent requests for information to four venders and a staff <br />committee will visit other libraries after reviewing the venders' materials. Bids will be formally <br />requested early next year and then later studied and a recommendation of the best system will be <br />provided the City Council for approval. <br />Ms. Lewis reported the Library recently received notification of its accreditationa as a fully <br />qualified member of the Northeast Texas Library System for fiscal year 93 -94.. Membership <br />advantages include discounts of 40 -45% on materials, funds for collection development, <br />consultation with library experts, and continuing education. The Paris Public Library has been a <br />member since 1979. <br />The Volunteer Recognition Event will be Monday, February 14 at noon in the Gallery. Ms. Lewis <br />will order $2 pins to be given to each of the 30 volunteers. <br />
