PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />May 11, 1994 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met a week early, May 11, 1994, in the Gallery <br />with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding and these members present: Jean Gibson, Virginia <br />Gibbs, Bill Hagood, Bill Neely, Rogene Patterson, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent <br />were Jackie Alsobrook and Joe Rex. Library Director, Beverly Lewis, NETLS Lay <br />Representative, Tom Seay; and Friends of the Library President Keitt Wood attended. <br />Minutes of the April 20, 1994, meeting were approved as circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis gave the budget report which indicated expenditures were in line for this time of <br />the year. The statistical report showed a total circulation of 114,366 items for the year, and <br />although April showed a slight decline of 2.5% when 16,086 items circulated, the total <br />circulation is still ahead of last year. Reference assistance was high with 3,504 requests <br />assisted. Attendance for 29 programs was 551, up over the previous month. Accessions <br />showed 350 addition, about half for adults and half for juvenile, and 28 audio books and 32 <br />videos were added. She commented on buying good videos from Wal -Mart for $5.96, <br />which is a bargain. <br />The committee on county funding chairman Jackie Alsobrook took the proposed contract, <br />which had not been agreed upon by committee members, but had been worked on by them, <br />to the County Commissioners Court and to City Council. She stressed the importance of <br />cooperation between the County and the City for shared funding for the Library. No <br />decision was taken by either entity. <br />Ms. Lewis reported she had recommended the Gaylord Automated Library System and it <br />had been approved by the City Council. This system has a user friendly on -line catalog and <br />is a turn key operation with in -house installation and training. The approximately $6,000 <br />additional funds will be obtained from the operating budget. September is the targeted <br />installation date. <br />Ms. Lewis said 250 -300 buttons with "Kids Who Read Succeed" on them were given out <br />during the Paris Art Fair, which was hampered by rains all day. <br />She said Mrs. Stephanie Fowler was hired as Manager of the Summer Reading Club <br />programs with her salary to be paid by the Friends. "The Little House" series of books by <br />Laura Ingalls Wilder will be the focus of the daily activities. <br />
