PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />AUGUST 10, 1994 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met a week early Wednesday, August 10, 1994, in the <br />Library Gallery with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding. Present were Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, <br />Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Keitt Wood, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Jackie <br />Alsobrook and Joe Rex. Library Director Bevelry Lewis and Friends of the Library President <br />Kathie Gibbs were present. <br />Minutes of the July 20, 1994, meeting were approved as circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the July budget report was not available from the City. She also reported on <br />the budget request for FY 94 -95, saying it had only a 1.6% increase over last year. She sent an <br />authorization for first payment of $18,000 for the automation system. <br />The statistical report indicated a total circulation of 162,953 to date which is an increase over last <br />year. July statistics also indicated the 17,633 was an increase over last year. There were 258 new <br />card holders added in July. <br />Acquisitions in July included 100 new books and 57 new audio cassettes. The staff was kept busy <br />bar coding the collection, so mainly reserve requests and best sellers were processed. <br />County funding was discussed. <br />Ms. Lewis reported on the automation project, noting the last boxes of shelf fist cards were ready <br />to mail to the conversion vendor. <br />She advised nearly 3,000 children participated in the Summer Reading Club activities, and said it <br />was a tremendous success. The Library also provided books for children who were participating <br />in the Accelerated Reading Club program at Aikin Elementary School. <br />The staff weeded 5,000 books. A box of juvenile books not appropriate to sell were given to <br />W.I.C., and 150 were purchased by a patron for the V.A. Hospital in Bonham. The rest were put <br />on the sale tables in the Library. <br />Chairman Shelton announced the City Council voted to appoint Mrs. Keitt Wood to be the <br />NETLS Lay Representative. <br />Mrs. Kathie Gibbs announced the Friends of the Library fund raising book review luncheon would <br />be at the Paris Golf and Country Club, Monday, October 17, when Mary Ann Smith of Dallas <br />would give a dramatic presentation " Paris In and Out ". A letter of invitation would be mailed to <br />all the Friends. <br />
