MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board meeting was called to
order in the Gallery, February 21, 1990, at 4:35 P.M. with
Vice Chairman Bill Neeley presiding. Other members present
were Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson and Beth
Shelton. Absent were Jackie Alsobrook, Frances Ellis, Bill
Hagood, and Eric Tate. Claire Haslam, President of the Friends
of the Library, and Beverly Lewis Campbell, Library Director,
were also present.
The Minutes of the January 17 and February 1, 1990 meetings
were approved as distributed.
Mrs. Campbell reported on the budget, noting the department is
1.72% over, due to unexpected building maintenance expenses and
the purchase of annual reference materials.
The statistical report showed everything was up. For January,
1,600 more items were circulated than for the same month last
year. Overall circulation was up 7 %. In programming, the six
dinosaur programs were very well attended.
Considering accessions, non - fiction continues to run higher
than fiction which is normal for adequate collection
development. Mrs. Campbell reported she had just purchased
more than three dozen remaindered fiction titles which would be
added to the collection immediately.
Mrs. Campbell reported for the Bywaters Committee. Dick
Bywaters and an assistant will hang the show Thursday and
Friday, February 22 and 23. The additional gallery lighting is
in, and the display panels will arrive on the 22nd. The
luncheon was discussed; 101 people are expected.
Mrs. Haslam announced that plans for the Friends' luncheon /book
review on March 9 are proceeding.
Mrs. Campbell discussed the on -going problem of insufficient
parking. It was the concensus of those present that she
investigate the installation of "Reserved for Library Patrons"
parking signs for the present lot; and the cost of surfacing
the back street area for parking. She will report back to the
Board.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:05 P.M.
1= gb - - - - -- - A ------ - - - - --
Date Approved Beth Shelton, Acting Secretary
