MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met March 21,
1990, at 4 P.M. in the Gallery with Secretary, Frances
Ellis, presiding and these members present: Jackie
Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson and Beth
Shelton. Absent were Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Bill
Neely, Eric Tate, and Claire Haslam, Friends' President.
Beverly Lewis Campbell, Library Director, was also
present.
The Minutes of the February 21, 1990, Meeting were
approved as circulated.
The Director gave the City Budget Report and the
Statistical Report. She advised the Library's circulation
is up ten percent from last year. The evening circulation
in February was 734 items. The Library received 37
memorial and gift contributions in February.
The February accessions included: 233 adult fiction, 209
adult non - fiction , 7 juvenile fiction, 26 juvenile
non - fiction, and 66 video titles.
The final report of the Bywaters Exhibit Committee was
given by Frances Ellis, Chairman, who expressed
appreciation to the Committee and Board for their concern,
promotion, and help during the February 25 - March 18
showing of 47 major works by the late Jerry Bywaters. She
presented the financial statement showing only
approximately $800 had been needed from the endowment
funds to assist with the security funding. A copy of the
statement is attached.
The Director said the two Bywaters panels about the fire
will be moved into the lobby (from the outer entrance) and
those of Davy Crockett and John Chisum will be placed in
the children's area. The "In The Public Library" gift to
the Library will be hung in the lobby between the two
about the fire.
Members advised delaying for further consideration any
restoration work on the panels.
Members discussed the need for something else of interest
for the planter /seat in the lobby because live plants have
not proved successful. The Director will research the
matter for a possible temporary solution and members will
consider the posibility of a mobile or statue for later
placement in that area.
