PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MARCH 27, 1991 MINUTES The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session, March 27, 1991, in the Library Gallery at 4 PM with Virginia Gibbs, Chairman, presiding, and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, attended. Minutes of the F.^.bruary 20, 1991, mF•eting L,,Zere approved as coi lectea. The Director discussed the budget report noting the Library was in its fifth month of spending, and has used 40.220 of the budget. She said total circulation in February of 1991 had increased by 17.4% over the same month the year before, and year to date was up 40.9% over a year ago. She said children's programs were bringing in more people. Accessions included 314 adult titles and 186 juvenile titles. The Library has 1,071 videos. During February, 180 titles were weeded. 247 new cardholders were added last month and those were entered into the computer data base, which has been the procedure for the past two years. The User Address Survey will begin again in April to determine the number of library users residing outside of Paris. When the survey is complete, the Director and the City Manager will study the results and decide upon an approach to the County Commissioners to request funding. The Director noted she and Mrs. Gibbs had received four answers to their letter sent to thirteen Texas Legislative leaders about the possible cut of $54,000 from the state budget for Libraries which would bring about the loss of 4.9 million in federal revenue. Their responses indicated they would work against this cut. The Friends of the Library report for the Luncheon February 23 indicated a profit of $1,297.50. Speaker, Ethel Sexton, charged $300; lunch by Paris Junior College ARA Food Services was $1,442; and decorations by Mrs. Margaret Nordone were $20.
