PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />MARCH 27, 1991 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, March 27, 1991, in the Library Gallery at 4 PM <br />with Virginia Gibbs, Chairman, presiding, and these <br />members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Bill <br />Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, Beth Shelton, and <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library <br />Director, attended. <br />Minutes of the F.^.bruary 20, 1991, mF•eting L,,Zere approved as <br />coi lectea. <br />The Director discussed the budget report noting the <br />Library was in its fifth month of spending, and has used <br />40.220 of the budget. <br />She said total circulation in February of 1991 had <br />increased by 17.4% over the same month the year before, <br />and year to date was up 40.9% over a year ago. She said <br />children's programs were bringing in more people. <br />Accessions included 314 adult titles and 186 juvenile <br />titles. The Library has 1,071 videos. During February, <br />180 titles were weeded. <br />247 new cardholders were added last month and those were <br />entered into the computer data base, which has been the <br />procedure for the past two years. The User Address Survey <br />will begin again in April to determine the number of <br />library users residing outside of Paris. When the survey <br />is complete, the Director and the City Manager will study <br />the results and decide upon an approach to the County <br />Commissioners to request funding. <br />The Director noted she and Mrs. Gibbs had received four <br />answers to their letter sent to thirteen Texas Legislative <br />leaders about the possible cut of $54,000 from the state <br />budget for Libraries which would bring about the loss of <br />4.9 million in federal revenue. Their responses indicated <br />they would work against this cut. <br />The Friends of the Library report for the Luncheon <br />February 23 indicated a profit of $1,297.50. Speaker, <br />Ethel Sexton, charged $300; lunch by Paris Junior College <br />ARA Food Services was $1,442; and decorations by Mrs. <br />Margaret Nordone were $20. <br />
