PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
APRIL 17, 1991
MINUTES
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session, April 17, 1991, at 4 PM in the Library Gallery
with Virginia Gibbs, Chairman, presiding, and these
members present: Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Rogene
Patterson, Bill Neely and Joe Rex. Absent were Jackie
Alsobrook, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis. Beverly
Lewis, Library Director, and Delores Hayter, Friends
President, attended.
Minutes of the March 27, 1991, meeting were approved as
circulated.
Lewis discussed the budget report noting the Library was
in its sixth month of spending for this fiscal year and
has used 47.46% of the budget to date.
March 1991 circulation was up 7% over the same month last
year and total circulation to date is 33% above that of
1990 with 90,003 items checked out. The circulation of Y
books climbed to 100 and Lewis noted that was a result of
those titles being shelved with the adult fiction now.
450 items were added to the collection in March: 275 adult
titles and 175 juvenile titles.
Lewis discussed National Library Week which is being
celebrated April 14 -20. The Library is promoting new book
collections and the children's services. The Paris News
had a front page story about the Library and a full page
advertisement with local business sponsors. In addition,
the KITX Radio reporter interviewed Lewis for the April 19
noon news program.
Hayter announced the fall Friends of the Library luncheon
would feature celebrated Margaret Mosher of Beeville,
Texas, who will present a book review of Running the
Amazon. Joe Kane's fascinating account of his expedition
down the Amazon River should prove interesting for those
attending the noon event to be held October 11 at the
Paris Golf and Country Club.
The Board discussed the Library Gallery policy. A group
of East Texas authors asked to present a program about
their new book, Stores of East Texas and advised they
would like to sell books, too, and would donate a
percentage to the Library. The Board tabled the
discussion until the City Attorney has an opportunity to
review the proposed updated policy.
