PARIS PUBLI LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />OCTOBER 16, 1996 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, October 16, <br />1996, in the Texas History Room at 4 PM with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding and these <br />members present: Vice Chair Joe Rex, Toni Donnan, Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, <br />and Keitt Wood. Absent were Jackie Alsobrook, Frances Ellis and Ralph Rodgers. Library <br />Director, Beverly Lewis, and Friends of the Library President, Kathie Gibbs, were present. <br />The September 18, 1996, Minutes were corrected to note adjournment was at 4:45 PM and <br />then the Minutes were approved. <br />The FY 1995 -1996 Budget Report was distributed and it showed the Library finished the <br />fiscal year under budget overall. Ms. Lewis noted that again it was possible to come close <br />to expending all of the materials funds in a timely manner and she was pleased with staff <br />efforts to do that. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and indicated the September 96 circulation had <br />increased over the previous September by 10.7 %. The FY 95 -96 report indicated a total <br />circulation of 260,083 items which was a 21% increase over the previous year. Ms. Lewis <br />advised the increases were seen in every subject and format area of the collection and she <br />was again pleased by this indication of increased library use. <br />Ms. Lewis invited the Board to come and look at Billy the Book after the meeting. She said <br />staff training in how to operate the robot will take place soon. A grand introduction for <br />Billy will be held in conjunction with a special children's program later. <br />Information about the video diagnostics machine was presented and upon motion by Keitt <br />Wood, second by Rogene Patterson, the Board voted unanimously to purchase it. <br />The Resolution of Sympathy to be sent to Elizabeth Crabb's family and NETLS was <br />distributed and upon motion by Toni Donnan, second by Joe Rex, it was approved. <br />Children's Book Week will be celebrated November 19 - 23. First time activities will <br />include a "Sleepover" in the Library for which kids in grades 1 - 6 must be pre registered. <br />This even will begin at 7 PM Friday and conclude at 8 AM Saturday Adult chaperones will <br />be present during the event and the Friends of the Library will provide the refreshments. <br />Also new will be a "Readathon" where kids will read favorite books in the lobby. Kids must <br />pre register and they will read in half hour segments. <br />-MORE- <br />
