PAGE 2 <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />APRIL 16, 1997 ,MINUTES <br />The third "Women's Words - Women's Issues" series was a success and attendees asked for <br />another one next year. At three of the programs; $97 was collected to purchase books relevant to <br />the topics presented. <br />The Library participated in Kids Safe Saturday last month at the Hunt Center. Ms. Lewis and <br />Children's Librarian Linda Orr staffed the booth and distributed more than 500 of the special <br />activity books which were designed by the staff and titled "Reading Keeps Kids Safe ". <br />Plans have been made for the Library to participate in the annual Paris Art Fair which will be <br />held Saturday, May 17 on the downtown square. Billy Book will make his first group public <br />appearance then. <br />Ms. Lewis introduced the new President of the Friends of the Library, Catharine Browning. <br />Upon motion by Virginia Gibbs, second by Jackie Alsobrook, the Board voted unanimously to <br />send a letter of appreciation to Kathie Gibbs for her outstanding service as Friends of the Library <br />President the past three years. <br />The Texas Library Association's annual Conference was held in Ft. Worth last week and was <br />attended by Ms. Lewis, Children's Librarian, Emily Kirkman, and Assistant Director, Priscilla <br />McAnnally. The two main themes were Children's services and the Internet and Mrs. Lewis <br />advised the programs were very informative. <br />Chairman Shelton advised the terms of Virginia Gibbs, Joe Rex, and Keitt Wood would conclude <br />in June and she will discuss the matter with each of them soon. <br />The meeting adjourned at 4:55 PM. <br />rances A.
