PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JUNE 18, 997 <br />lull►T�Ii���T.y <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at <br />4 PM in the Gallery with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding. Present were Jackie Alsobrook, <br />Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, Keitt Wood, Joe Rex, Vice Chair; and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Catharine Browning, Friends President, and Beverly Lewis, Library Director were <br />present. Absent were Toni Donnan and Ralph Rodgers. John Howison was a guest. <br />The May 21, 1997, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis reported expenditures were on target for the first eight months of the fiscal year, as <br />noted in the Budget Report that was distributed. <br />She discussed the Statistical Report which was distributed and indicated 194,369 items have <br />been circulated which is a 17.9% increase year to date over the same period last year. Also, May, <br />1997, was also busier by 19.7% than the same month last year and 25,577 items circulated. <br />There were 662 new books, videos, and audio books added to the collection in May. The <br />collection includes 72,054 books; 2,907 audio books; and 5,721 videos. <br />Upon motion by Jackie Alsobrook, second by Keitt Wood, the Board unanimously approved the <br />"Guidelines for Billy Book ", the Library's unique book robot. <br />The Summer Reading Club is in progress and there has been excellent attendance to date at the <br />programs offered each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Family Literacy Outreach Services Project (FLOSP) has been very <br />successful to date at the four rural sites. Kids attending the programs range in age from two years <br />to sixteen years; and several adults have attended each program, also. <br />Chairman Beth Shelton reported the City Council appointed Virginia Gibbs, Keitt Wood, and <br />John Howison to serve on the Board; and she introduced Mr. Howison. <br />
