PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JANUARY 21, 1998 <br />ul ►liy��.y <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, January 21, 1998, in <br />the Gallery at 4 PM. Chairman Keitt Wood presided and these members were present: Jackie <br />Alsobrook, A. W. Clem, Virginia Gibbs, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, Ralph Rodgers, and <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, was also present. Absent was <br />Catharine Browning, Friends President. <br />The December 17, 1997, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />The January Budget Report was unavailable from the City Finance Director. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed. There was an increase of 8.8% in circulation in December <br />over the same month last year and 19,593 books, videos, audio books and music cassettes were <br />checked out. In addition, reserve requests and interlibrary loan transactions increased last month. <br />789 new titles were added to the collection and the majority were children's books. <br />In December there were seven children's holiday program and 101 kids and 47 adults attended. <br />The Senior Outreach Service Coordinator made visits to three retirement homes and four nursing <br />homes in December and delivered 198 titles. Book carts were left at each of the locations to hold <br />the library materials. <br />The four Wednesday "Women's Words - Women's Issues" luncheons will begin February 4 and <br />there have already been reservations made for this Paris Public Library/McCuistion Women's <br />Health Resource Center partnership series. <br />Kids Safe Saturday will be March 21 and the Library will have a booth inside the Hunt Center <br />and the Mobile Library parked outside. The theme will again be "Reading Keeps Kids Safe" and <br />the Library will have a large banner with that slogan on it behind the booth. In addition, Library <br />staff will distribute bookmarks and activity booklets. <br />The February Board meeting was changed to the 25th because of the NETLS meeting on the 18th. <br />The Library will host a NETLS workshop about "Supervision" on February 3rd. The Board <br />agreed to provide refreshments and Keitt Wood, Jackie Alsobrook, Ralph Rodgers, Frances Ellis <br />and John Howison volunteered to help. <br />
