PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD JANUARY 21, 1998 ul ►liy��.y The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, January 21, 1998, in the Gallery at 4 PM. Chairman Keitt Wood presided and these members were present: Jackie Alsobrook, A. W. Clem, Virginia Gibbs, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, Ralph Rodgers, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, was also present. Absent was Catharine Browning, Friends President. The December 17, 1997, Minutes were approved as distributed. The January Budget Report was unavailable from the City Finance Director. The Statistical Report was distributed. There was an increase of 8.8% in circulation in December over the same month last year and 19,593 books, videos, audio books and music cassettes were checked out. In addition, reserve requests and interlibrary loan transactions increased last month. 789 new titles were added to the collection and the majority were children's books. In December there were seven children's holiday program and 101 kids and 47 adults attended. The Senior Outreach Service Coordinator made visits to three retirement homes and four nursing homes in December and delivered 198 titles. Book carts were left at each of the locations to hold the library materials. The four Wednesday "Women's Words - Women's Issues" luncheons will begin February 4 and there have already been reservations made for this Paris Public Library/McCuistion Women's Health Resource Center partnership series. Kids Safe Saturday will be March 21 and the Library will have a booth inside the Hunt Center and the Mobile Library parked outside. The theme will again be "Reading Keeps Kids Safe" and the Library will have a large banner with that slogan on it behind the booth. In addition, Library staff will distribute bookmarks and activity booklets. The February Board meeting was changed to the 25th because of the NETLS meeting on the 18th. The Library will host a NETLS workshop about "Supervision" on February 3rd. The Board agreed to provide refreshments and Keitt Wood, Jackie Alsobrook, Ralph Rodgers, Frances Ellis and John Howison volunteered to help.
