PAGE 2 <br />LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD 05/20/98 NE UTES <br />Ms. Lewis reported the application for the telecommunications discount (E -Rate) is still in <br />progress. The NETLS Automation Consultant advised many other libraries are also <br />experiencing long delays in response from the SLC (the agency established to facilitate the <br />application process). Ms. Lewis requested the Board to assume payment for the work done by <br />the local contractor, as detailed in the Technology Plan, should that work be completed and the <br />Application still incomplete. The Board voted in the majority, with two abstentions, upon <br />motion by Chairman Wood, second by John Howison, to pay Professional Business Systems in a <br />timely manner. <br />The Board discussed the June 18 luncheon to honor City Council members. It will be catered by <br />Texas Belle and the time will be 11:30 AM to 1 PM. A brief program and Library tour will <br />follow the meal. <br />Ms. Lewis distributed the Internet Guidelines and the accompanying Internet Access Agreement <br />and Internet Access Agreement for Child. These were discussed in depth and upon motion by <br />Jackie Alsobrook, second by John Howison, were unanimously approved. <br />The Summer Reading Club programs will begin June 2 and the theme will be a "Reading Safari <br />to Africa and India" with hour -long activities each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday <br />afternoon in June and July. Readers will meet in the Gallery and preschoolers will meet in the <br />Story Corner. <br />The Mobile Library Summer Reading Service will begin June 8 and the Mobile Library will <br />present reading programs to kids of all ages at seven locations: Brookston, Roxton, Powderly, <br />Blossom, Deport, Even Start, and Nicholson House. The theme is "Reading is FUNdamental ". <br />Catharine Browning reported the Friends spring benefit luncheon was a big success and cleared <br />approximately $1,600 for the Children's Room. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5:10 PM. <br />�� An CC�- a. &/1-7 <br />Frances A.
