PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JULY 21, 1999 <br />► � 11.�T -11K0- &1 4 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at <br />4:05 PM with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present: John Howison, <br />Bill Strathern and Walter Williams. Absent were Curtis Fendley, Sarah Gambil, Virginia Gibbs, <br />Rogene Patterson, Nancee Salzman and Friends President Jimmye Hickman. Library Director <br />Beverly Lewis was present. <br />New Board members Bill Strathem and Walter Williams were welcomed. <br />The Budget Report was distributed and it was noted that for the first nine months of this fiscal <br />year, expenditures were on target. Ms. Lewis advised the FY 1999 -2000 Budget Request had <br />been submitted but she had not discussed it with the City Manager. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and it was noted that in June there was a 10% increase <br />over June of the previous year and 28,319 items circulated. The year -to -date increase is 9.1% <br />and 233,961 items have circulated. In June, 771 new titles were added to the collection and the <br />majority were books. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Library's cataloger, Valle Stankus, would retire at the end of July. She has <br />been cataloging library materials for ten plus years and has done an exemplary job. <br />The popular Summer Reading Club continues. In June, 414 readers attended the programs in the <br />Gallery and 188 preschoolers enjoyed the storytimes in the Children's Room. The Mobile <br />Library's summer reading programs were held at nine locations each week in June and 696 kids <br />attended. <br />The Senior Outreach service was provided to seniors in thirteen locations and to eight <br />homebound patrons in June. More than 1,500 titles were circulated via this service. <br />Chairman Alsobrook noted the Board has not received a response from the Mayor regarding the <br />Board's letter to the Mayor and City Council about county funding. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Library participated in the Celebrate America parade July 3rd. 48 kids <br />rode on the colorful float which they had decorated beforehand. After the parade, everyone <br />returned to the Library for a reading program and pizza which was provided by Friends of the <br />Library. <br />
