PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MAY 26, 1999 <br />MIl1TUTE S <br />The Paris Public Library met in regular session Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at 4:05 PM in the <br />Gallery with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present: Virginia Gibbs, <br />John Howison, Rogene Patterson and Beth Shelton. Absent were Frances Ellis, Curtis Fendley, <br />Ralph Rodgers and Friends President Jimmye Hancock. Library Director Beverly Lewis was <br />present. <br />The April 7, 1999, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis distributed the March and April Budget Reports and advised year to date expenditures <br />were on target. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and it was noted that April circulation was up 8.7% over <br />the same month last month. Year to date circulation is also up with an increase of 9 %. Last <br />month 653 new items were added to the collection and the majority were books. <br />There were a total of 403 kids attending the 17 programs in April that included storytimes and <br />library tours. <br />Senior Outreach Services Coordinator, Cynthia Annis, delivered 1026 books, 317 videos, 337 <br />audio books and 121 magazines to 14 senior locations and 9 homebound patrons in April. <br />Chairman Alsobrook reported that she had not yet received a reply from the Mayor regarding the <br />Board's letter about county funding. <br />The Summer Reading Club begins the first week in June. The theme will be "Search for <br />Treasure, Read for Pleasure" and readers will meet in the Gallery with Miss Emily for reading <br />related activities. Listeners will meet in the Children's Room with Miss Ruby Summers for <br />stories and coloring activities. <br />The Mobile Library Summer Reading Service begins the second week in June and will be held at <br />nine sites; four in the City and five outside the City limits. Justiss Elementary is a new site this <br />year and programs will resume at Clovis Graves Community Center which was a site during the <br />first year of the program. Under the auspices of Project Save and the Lamar County Coalition of <br />Education, Business and Industry, funds will be provided to purchase giveaway books and pay <br />for the salary of a program assistant. <br />-MORE- <br />
