PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD JANUARY 20, 1999 MINUTES The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at 4:15 PM in the Gallery with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present: Curtis Fendley, John Howison, Beth Shelton, Keitt Wood, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director was also present. Absent were Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, Ralph Rodgers; and Friends President, Catharine Browning. The December 16, 1998 Minutes were approved as distributed. The Budget Report for the first quarter of this fiscal year indicated expenditures were on target with 27.4% of the budget expended. The Statistical Report indicated that circulation was up 2,770 items, or 14 %, over December of the previous year with 22,363 items circulated. Year to date circulation is up 13.1 %. Ms. Lewis noted that December was a record month for acquisitions because a total of 1,237 new items were added to the collection, including 979 books, 125 audio books and 133 videos. In December there were eleven children's programs with a total attendance of 187 kids and 93 adults. Outreach services increased last month and a total of 1,420 items were circulated; 77 of those were to homebound patrons. Ms. Lewis said an informative new statistic would be provided each month and then noted volunteers gave 115.5 hours of service to the Library in December. Upon motion by Curtis Fendley, second by John Howison, the Board unanimously agreed to recommend Sarah Gambill to fill Keitt Wood's soon -to -be vacant position on the Board. This recommendation will be sent to the City Manager immediately. After discussion, it was decided to postpone recommending a second person to serve as NETLS Lay Representative because Jackie Alsobrook advised she would attend the final two system meetings this year. After discussion, Chairman Alsobrook appointed Curtis Fendley, Beth Shelton, and Library Director Beverly Lewis to serve on a committee with her to create a proposed recommendation about county funding for the Board to study.
