Library Advisory Board
September 17, 2003
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY
ADVISORY BOARD
September 15, 2004
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session
Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at 4:OOPM in the Library with Chairman
Nancee Salzman presiding. The following Board members were present:
Jackie Alsob rook, Sarah Gambill, Deborah Hatley, Carl Lucas, and .lake
Street. Also attending were Larry Shaw, Interim City Manager and
Priscilla McAnally, Assistant Library Director. Anna Davis, Bill Kennedy,
Walter Williams, and Callie Thompson, Friends' President, did not attend.
The minutes from the August meeting were approved.
The Board discussed questions raised over implementation of the $40 fee
for out -of- county patrons to take effect October 1, 2004, per resolution by
the Paris City Council. Concern was expressed that some families might
not be able to pay the required fee. Options discussed included the
possibility of scholarships based upon the income of the patron. Mention
was made of the possible use of some Trust Fund monies for these
scholarships. No decisions were made relating to the fees.
A change in library operating hours effective October 1, 2004, was given.
The only change will be on Mondays the library will. be open: to the public
from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. rather than from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Board would like the Library and its services to become more visible
to the public. Plans to discuss the use of the local newspaper through press
releases were discussed. It was mentioned that Board member Carl Lucas
and Assistant Director Priscilla McAnally talk to the publisher and editor
of the local newspaper about a weekly or bi- weekly column concerning the
library's activities.
Adult and Children's Outreach services provided outside the corporate
city limits will cease October 1, 2004. These services include programs at
some nursing homes and day care centers.
