Paris Public Library Advisory Board
Minutes of the Regular Meeting
November 28, 2007
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday afternoon, November
28, 2007 at 4 o'clock at the library. Chairman Bill Kennedy called the meeting to order. Other
members in attendance were Audrey Lakes, Deborah Hatley, Hilda Mallory, Eddie Poole, and
Linda Vandiver. Also in attendance was Library Director Priscilla McAnally and Friends Co-
Chair, Amanda Green.
The minutes of the October meeting were approved as printed.
Library Director, Priscilla McAnally, outlined the proposed plan of action for the Lone Star
Library grant as follows:
1. Internet access for public use computers (not included in the City's Suddenlink
contract).
2. Library Director and 2 staff to attend National Library meeting in Minneapolis.
3. Repair of plaster in the front room, which will be done as the new carpet is installed.
The library will be closed December 10 -15 for carpet installation. Library staff will continue to
work during this time.
The director also presented some ideas for new library services, including basic Internet and
Word classes.
The budgets for September and October were both presented and discussed. There was money
left over in the account for books.
The statistics for October were also presented. Circulation was down in October, but can be
attributed in part to the decrease in video rental. New video purchases now include educational
and "how -to" and not feature films.
The director reported that the City is looking at new software purchases for web sites. The web
site is currently a little out -of -date and will be updated.
Friends Co- Chair, Amanda Green, reported that there was a good turn-out for the June Proctor
book signing. She also reported that a speaker is needed for the Spring luncheon, preferably
someone who will speak for free. In the fall Dr. Tobin will host a meeting on book collecting.
Ms. McAnally reported that beginning in January all staff will be cross - trained. Board members
will be sent a packet when completed.
There being no further business, the chairman adjourned the meeting at 4:35 and the board looked
at the plaster damage in the front room.
a
Linda Vandiver for
Debbie Anderson, Secretary
