Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />October 19, 2011 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. In the Library <br />Gallery. Those attending were Deborah Hatley, Linda Vandiver, Hilda Mallory, Alice Woodard, Pat <br />Books, and Library Director Priscilla McAnally. Chairperson Linda Vandiver called the meeting to <br />order. <br />Minutes from the September 21, 2011, meeting were approved as printed. <br />New business included discussion about and approval by the Board of three brochures to be placed in <br />the library for patrons' perusal. The first was from the Educational Opportunity Center at PJC, a part of <br />the Trio Program. The second, The Blue Bird Program from the Texa Master Naturalism Training <br />Program. The third, an AARP Driver Safety Program, a Veterans' Promotion. The board felt that all <br />three advertised programs would be beneficial to the community. <br />In response to a patron complaint about the appropriateness of a CD cover, the Board discussed pros <br />and cons of altering the jacket to cover some nudity. The Board voted to do so. <br />Budget and Statistical Report: <br />The Director reviewed for the Board the decision by the Paris City Council to disallow library use <br />fees. <br />A budget report was not available as the City Financial Officer is in the process of closing out. <br />The statistical reports revealed that circulation, library visits, volunteer hours, and programs are down <br />slightly <br />The Friends group has completed plans for a "Wine and Cheese" event, to be held on November 10, <br />from 5:30 to 7:00, at Lillian Kelley's, a new business at 4 West Plaza. <br />Concerning Adult Education, the Director presented a proposal from the Social Security Administration <br />for a program on that subject.
