JUNE 30, 1981
ADVISORY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
The Advisory Board of Health met at the Paris -Lamar County Health
Department on Tuesday, June 30, 1981, with the following members
present: Mr. James Deatherage, Chairman, Mrs. Ann Norment, Mrs.
Frances Ellis, Dr. William Hayden, Dr. Charles McMillan, Dr. Richard
Bercher, and Dr. W.L. Kelley. Others present were: Dr. Hillhouse
and W.C. "Sonny" Pursifull, of the Health Department.
Mr. Deatherage called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. and asked
the members of the Board to look over the bids which had been sub-
mitted for painting the building. A discussion followed and Dr.
McMillan made the motion that the bid of $3,450.00 from Billy
Cochran be accepted. The motion was seconddd by Ann Norment. The
motion carried.
The fiscal year to be taken by the Health Department was discussed
and Mrs. Norment made the motion that we take the City's fiscal
year, July 1 through June 30, since most of the money comes from
there. Mrs. Ellis seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Dr. Hillhouse called on "Sonny" Pursifull to give a report on
Mosquito Control. Mr. Pursifull told of the many problems her, was
having, not only with equipment but also with CETA Employees.
One CETA Employee became intoxicated at night and drove our vehicle
about without authorization, doing extensive damage to the ULV
Machine and also to the vehicle which he was driving. He was
relieved of his duties with the Health Department. The other
employee found a better job in another town, and quit the day
before, on Monday, June 29th.
Dr. Hayden asked that special note be made that trying to use CETA
workers was totally unsatisfactory, as well as extremely expensive
in damage to vehicles and loss of work time. He wished to point
this out to the County and remind the City, so such a move may be
avoided in the future. The Board unanimously agreed with him.
Mr. Pursifull reported we did have a supervisor for Mosquito
Control and one CETA female employee (which can only work until the
31st of August), and they were doing the best that they could. In
order to get more CETA help, we would have to get another vehicle
and another supervisor.
