JUNE 24, 1982
ADVISORY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
The Advisory Board of Health met at the Paris -Lamar County Health Unit on
Thursday, June 24, 1982 at 7:30 P.M., with the following members present:
Mrs. Ann Norment, Mrs. Frances Ellis, Dr. Richard Bercher. Also present
were: Dr. Hillhouse and Mr. Pursifull of the Health Department. Board
members which were not present were: James Deatherage, Dr. C.U. McMillan,
Dr. Don Haslam and Dr. Wallace Kraft. It was learned that Dr. Kelley and
Dr. William Hayden had resigned as members of the Board. (Dr. Haslam
replacing Dr. Kelley).
In the absence of the Chairman, James Deatherage, Dr. Bercher conducted
the meeting and called it to order about 7:40 P.M. The minutes of the
last meeting were not read as they were of no interest to this meeting.
Dr. Hillhouse began by explaining that the Health Department was going to
run several thousand dollars short of the budget allowance, due to the
cost of chemicals for Mosquito Control. He said it would take part of our
back -log to finish out Mosquito Control this season, and we would probably
have to ask for money from the City and County.
He also explained why so many hours were being spent at the jail and on
the jail patients and their records. A discussion followed and Dr.
Bercher recommended that someone screen the jail patients before the
doctor arrived, to make sure that he only saw the ones who really needed
medical attention. He suggested those with colds, runny noses, etc.
should be given simple treatment, with Aspirin, Tylenol and Antihistamines.
It was suggested that since we had two ambulances of Para Medics on call
all the time, based at the City Police station, that we might have one
team based at the Lamar County Jail where the Para Medics could screen
the prisoners on a constant basis. Dr. Bercher said he would speak to
the other doctors on the Board about the medical aspect of this, in order
to take some of the responsibility from Dr. Hillhouse.
Since Dr. Hayden had resigned, it was suggested by Dr. Hillhouse that a
doctor from McCuistion be appointed to the Board. Dr. Bercher said he
would discuss this with Dr. McMillan about the possibility of asking Dr.
Casey. Since Mrs. Ellis was acquainted with Mayor, Joe Graham, person-
ally, she was requested to talk to him about possibly appointing Dr.
Casey to the Board.
Dr. Bercher suggested we have another meeting soon to make other Board
members aware of this situation.
The meeting was adjourned by Dr. Bercher about 8:45 P.M.
Respectfully Submitted by• 4ee-" Zov
Bettr nnedy, S etary
