MINUTES
PARIS -LAMAR COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
JANUARY 12, 1989
The Paris -Lamar County Board of Health met Thursday, January 12,
1989 at the Health Department Building. Mrs. Norment called the meeting
to order at 7:12 A.M. The board members were: Mrs. Norment, Mrs. Ellis,
Dr. Strom, Rev. Evans, Dr. Cutrell, and Dr. Kraft.
Dr. Cutrell made a motion that our minutes be reviewed by a member
of the board before they are typed each month. All were in favor of this
motion.
Our previous minutes were first approved with the addition of the
word "some" to the second paragraph, fourth line before the word - control.
After more discussion, the minutes stood as printed after all.
Mrs. Vorment asked for an election of new officers for the board.
Dr. Cutrell nominated Dr. Bercher for chairman. Dr. Kraft seconded
the motion. A vote was made and Dr. Bercher became the new chairman.
Dr. Kraft then nominated Dr. Strom for vice - chairman. All members present
approved of Dr. Strom as the new vice - chairman. Likewise, all members
approved for Dr. Cutrell to remain as the secretary.
Next, Mrs. Norment asked Anthony Bethel to speak concerning temporary
professional coverage for clinics. He voiced the urgency for us to have
a Family- Planning Clinic soon as possible. He had talked with Dr. Nancy
Gonzalez and she agreed to work J day clinics once a week at $300.00
per clinic until Dr. Hillhouse can return to work. Dr. Gonzalez is em-
ployed by St. Joseph Clinic in Cooper, Texas and would be using her va-
cation time to help out here.
Dr. Strom wanted to discuss some other options. The doctors on our
board met and talked with some of our local Ob -Gyn doctors recently.
Dr. Carpenter recommended that we get a Resident Doctor from Dallas to
work our clinics because they carry .their own liability insurance.
Rev. Evans made a motion that the board allow Dr. Gonzalez to work
three clinics in January at $300.00 each, and if Dr. Hillhouse doesn't
return by February 1st, she will work four more clinics in February. Dr.
Strom seconded the motion. The motion carried and all were in favor of
this temporary arrangement.
The monthly report was given by Anthony Bethel. He passed out copies
of the last three months of statistics. The City Electrician inspected
our hall lights and they need to be replaced. Anthony has ordered new
lights for our hall. Harley White will install the new lights.
