MINUTES
AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1978
7:00 O'CLOCK P. M.
COX FIELD AIRPORT
PARIS, TEXAS
The Airport Advisory Board met in regular session on Tuesday, February 28, 1978 at
7:00 P.M. in the terminal building at Cox Field Airport with the following members
present:
1. Rick Rex - Chairman
2. Bruce Carr
3. Dr. Lawrence Mann
Also present at the meeting were Jim Collier, Airport Manager and H. C. Greene,
Acting City Manager.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Rex, and the Minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved.
Jim Collier reported that there had been no progress made since our last meeting
in the construction work on the runway overlay due to inclement weather. In con -
juction with construction on the North -South runway, Jim Collier noted that there
had been one accident on the runway while it has been closed and several incidents
of planes landing on the runway. It was the consensus of the group to alert the
flying public of the runway closing. It was suggested, however, that a notice be
placed in the local newspapers to the effect that the runway was closed indefinitely.
A lengthy discussion took place regarding the incorporation of funds in the budget
for the coming year to build additional T- Hangars. Jim Collier indicated that the
hangar expense has been submitted for the proposed budget. A special meeting has
been called for March 22, 1978 for the purpose of: determining the recommended
type of hangar construction, developing a preliminary estimate of such construction
and discussing the need for additional hangars as a prerequesite for industrial
development in the community.
The Board briefly discussed the cost of leasing hangars, and it was concluded that
under the current lease arrangement the cost of leasing hangars was scheduled to
be increased at the end of this year.
A discussion was held concerning the need to re -zone the area proposed for future
hangar construction and Harold Greene indicated that he would investigate the matter.
Bruce Carr
Acting Secretary
