survey of the smaller cities' return on investment from their airports.
City -owned Airports, comparable in size and population to Paris, are
difficult to locate according to PAAC members.
PAAC members again protested the Airport Board's rental fee recommendation
which has now been approved by the City Council. Lack of or poor services
at the Airport were discussed.
Mr. Moseley stated that the Board's recommendation was based on'the idea
that if the hangers paid for themselves over a 15 year period, then the
City would be more willing to approve more hangers that are very much
needed.
John Bell responded that the airport provides benefits to the city in
attracting industry that is decentralizing to smaller communities like
Paris. Out of the 2500 companies in the U.S. that are relocating, at
least 2370 own and operate planes.
Bob Loughmiller stated that Merico would not be in Paris if Airport
facilities were not available.
Merico, like Campbell Soup and several other large companies that
have moved to Paris uses the airport almost daily. The two Merico
companies employ 740 local people who earn $ 7.3 million annually.
Growth and improvement of airport facilities are vital interests
to these local industries and to other industries considering Paris
as a site to relocate.
PAAC members agreed to provide a priority list of services and
improvements they are suggesting for the airport.
Dr. Huneycutt suggested that the Board recommend that Mr. Maness'
proposed hanger construction plan be seriously considered by the
City with limited City restrictions.
.Mr. Rex responded that this could be done when a written proposal
is presented to the Board by Mr. Maness. Mr. Rex also urged PAAC
members to gather information and amortization figures to present
to the Board at the next meeting for final review of the rental
rates.
3. Review Annual Statistical Reports on Monthly Airport gas sales from
the Airport Manager. Mr. Collier presented written tables to each
Board member.
New Business:
1. A film by the FAA, "Airports Mean Business," was viewed. Board members
were impressed with the importance of airports to communities and
the figure showing how airports build cities.
