McCollum, Director of Community Development.
Chairman Mallory called the meeting to order and opened the public hearing
to consider the appeal of Ed Seidle for a permit to extend a non conforming
building on Lot 19, City Block 35, located at 615 E. Price Street.
Mr. Seidle told the Board of his need to enlarge the living area of an
apartment in the building at 615 E. Price. He explained that he was
renovating the six living units on the lot but that no additional units were
proposed. The enlargement would require the extension of a wall that is only
3.8 feet from the west property line but would not take un any space used
for parking.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Council, 630 E. Price were present and voiced objection
to any additional apartment units on the property.
Mrs. Joe Mathis, 639 E. Price, commented on the type of tenants which had
been living there and some parking and traffic problems associated with the
apartment.
Mr. Seidle stated he intended to trim some of the trees and shrubs which
obstructed view of traffic and that the improvements being made, along with
being under the Section 8 Housing Program, would assure a stable tenant
situation. He said the disabled and elderly would be renting the units.
Mr. Woods asked how many people would be living there and Mr. Seidle said
8 -10 people in 8 units.
Mr. Williams said the improvements planned will upgrade the structure and no
new units were proposed so he was in favor of allowing the permit.
Mr. Williams then made a motion to approve the permit to extend the building.
Mr. Nafe said the renovations are a plus and with Mr. Seidle agreeing to do
away with the shrubs blocking the view and taking measures to secure off
street parking, he would second the motion.
