June 3, 1991 <br />MEMORANDUM: <br />To Michael E. Malone, City Manager <br />From Steve Burgin, Fire chief <br />Subject Fire Code Variance Request <br />As noted by the attached letter, Mr Toby Yoder has requested a <br />variance on the Code requirement which provides hydrant protection <br />within 150 feet of new construction. This proposed construction <br />will be located at 1418 N.W. 19th Street; Lot 6, City Block 235 A. <br />A copy of Mr Yoder's building plan is attached which shows the <br />following: <br />1. He plans to construct a 30 x 60 foot, pre -fab <br />concrete building which will be used for a shop for his <br />concrete business. This is considered light use. <br />2. He is within the 500 foot travel distance to two <br />hydrants as mandated by the second part of this code. <br />This department has no objections to a waiver for this requirement. <br />The site will be protected with existing hydrants. Further hydrant <br />placement for this need would be contrary to good practice; ie: the <br />placement of hydrants in too concentrated a manner for light <br />commercial development. <br />Steve Burgin <br />Fire Chief <br />
