MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />February 21, 1984 <br />The City Council of the City of Paris met in special session, Tuesday, February <br />21, 1984, 5:15 P. M. Mayor Graham called the meeting to order with the following <br />Councilmen present: Donald G. Wilson, Gene McWaters, Jr., George Fisher, Jr., <br />A. L. Ware, Nathan Bell, and Jeff Hoog. Also present were City Manager Daivd H. <br />Doty, City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, and City Clerk, H. C. Greene. <br />Mayor Graham announced that the special meeting was called for the purpose of <br />conducting a public hearing concerning Midwest Video Corporation rate schedule <br />and level of service. <br />Mayor Graham declared the public hearing open. <br />Mr. Robert Burns appeared before the Council and suggested that a three year prob- <br />ationary contract be issued to the McCaw Cable Company. <br />Ms. Susan Thompson appeared before the Council stating that she feels that Midwest <br />Video should be continued. <br />Mr. John McCaw of McCaw Communication Company, Inc. appeared before the Council <br />stating that his firm was negotiating with Midwest Video for the purchase of that <br />Company's stock. Mr. McCaw requested the Council's agreement to a transfer from <br />Midwest Video to McCaw Communication Company. Mr. McCaw stated that his company <br />would bring the cable system in Paris up to the quality of service specified by <br />the Federal Communication Commission standards. Mr. McCaw also stated that <br />additional channels would be added including a space for Local Channel, a Health <br />Network, USA Network, a Nashville or Religious Network, and probably a Disney <br />and Showtime pay channel. <br />Mr. Terry Shannon of Midwest Video also appeared before the Council to discuss <br />the issue. <br />Mr. David Norwood appeared before the Council with a petition signed by <br />approximately 150 different households expressing the desire to have the <br />PTL Television Network, Charlotte, North Carolina, added to our present cable <br />system. Mr. McCaw agreed to furnished the City Council with a letter concerning <br />the intent of the cable company as to the level of service and additional channels. <br />Mr. Shannon also agreed to attempt to have the Midwest Video furnish financial <br />statements to the City Council. <br />Mayor Graham declared the public hearing closed. <br />Resolution No. 84 -014 authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract with the <br />International City Managers Association to provide Insurance and Rish Management <br />Consulting Services through the Wyatt Company was presented. A motion was made <br />by Councilman Bell, seconded by Councilman Wilson approving the Resolution. The <br />motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />� r <br />
