543 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2459 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS PROVIDING THAT THE CODE <br />OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS BE AMENDED BY REVISING <br />ARTICLE IV TO CHAPTER 2 PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT <br />r— OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF <br />JULY 1979. <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by <br />Councilman Fisher for adoption of the Ordinance. The motion carried <br />5 ayes, 2 nays. Councilman Farris and Councilman Kyle voting nay. <br />City Manager Sokoll advised the Council of the appointment of Darrell <br />Gunn as Director of Public Works and City Engineer, and requested confirm- <br />ation as required by charter. A motion was made by Councilman Fisher, <br />seconded by Councilman Farris to confirm the appointment of Darrell Gunn <br />as Director of Public Works and City Engineer. The motion carried 7 ayes, <br />0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone requested the consideration of the Council of an Ordinance <br />establishing the tax rate for 1979. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2460 <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TAX RATE AND THE TAX LEVY, AND LEVYING AD <br />VALOREM TAXES FOR THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1979, <br />UPON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE SAID CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, IN <br />CONFORMITY WITH THE CHARTER PROVISIONS AND ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY; <br />AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT <br />HEREWITH. <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by <br />Councilman Fisher for adoption of the Ordinance. The motion carried <br />7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Attorney Haynes advised the Council of the need of an Ordinance <br />prohibiting the transportation of fireworks within the Paris city limits. <br />A motion was made by Councilman Francis seconded by Councilman Kyle <br />authorizing the preparation of the recommended Ordinance. Motion <br />carried 4 ayes, 3 nays. Councilman Williams, Burnett, and Fisher voting <br />nay. <br />Mr. Paul Woods, 1518 Pine Bluff Street appeared before the Council requesting <br />investigation of speeding of vehicles on Pine Bluff Street. Mayor Malone <br />referred the recommendation of Mr. Woods to the Traffic Comnissicn for <br />their study. <br />Councilman Fisher requested to be excused for the remaining of the meeting. <br />A motion was made by Councilman Burnett, seconded by Councilman Williams <br />approving the request. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />
